What it is
Many small sensors send their readings over Bluetooth. Today Nexus reads RuuviTag temperature and humidity tags, and Victron battery monitors (SmartShunt and BMV). The Nexus unit listens for them all the time. This screen chooses which ones the boat keeps.
It's the boat that listens, not your phone. You can add a sensor from anywhere, Direct or Cloud, as long as the sensor is near the boat.
The top of the list says how many devices you have and whether the boat is listening. A green dot means all is well. Each device shows its name, when the boat last heard it, and how strong its signal is.
Add a sensor
- Tap Bluetooth on the Home screen, or Settings › Bluetooth devices.
- Tap Add a device. The boat lists the supported sensors it can hear.
- Tap Add next to yours. If it isn't there, bring it closer to the Nexus unit or wake it up, then tap the refresh button at the top to listen again.
- Give it a Device label that says what it measures, such as "Salon temperature". The boxes below it fill themselves in. Leave them as they are.
- Tap Add. It joins My devices, and its readings appear wherever Nexus shows them.
Devices Nexus can't read yet are counted in a line under the list: "other devices heard, not supported yet". Tap it to see them. You can't add them, but they tell you the boat's Bluetooth is working.
Tip: We add new devices all the time. If you have one Nexus can't read yet, email us its make and model, and we'll do our best to add it.
Note: Victron battery monitors encrypt their readings. Nexus asks for the Encryption key (required): 32 characters, the digits 0 to 9 and the letters A to F. In the VictronConnect app, it's under Product Info, "Instant readout details". Add stays grey until the key is in. Until the boat has the key, the device shows needs its key.
Rename or remove a device
- Tap the pencil next to a device to change its label or notes, then tap Save. The same screen shows its latest readings.
- Tap Remove to stop the boat keeping it. It's removed at once, without asking.
Tip: Nexus's own sensors, such as the engine and bilge monitors, aren't added here. They're under Settings › Nexus devices.
